TRL-VA and The New Teacher Project present: Avoiding the Implementation Gap: The Critical Role of leaders in Translating the Science of Reading into Classroom Change

With the Virginia Literacy Act, Virginia is at an inflection point in the shift toward research-based practice in literacy. In this session, we’ll share what we are learning through TNTP’s work in more than 300 school systems nationwide about how to avoid the “implementation gap”, and engage participants in a discussion about what’s working, and what’s not in their systems. Explicit Instruction for Intensifying Decoding and Encoding Instruction
This session is designed to support educators in translating research grounded in the Science of Reading into evidence-based instructional practices. We will discuss instructional routines that can be used in classrooms to increase the explicitness of literacy instruction to support all students as they learn to read. By the end of the session, participants will understand how and why using instructional routines enhances reading instruction.

VLA Kick-Off
TRL-VA celebrated the launch of the Virginia Literacy Act. In-person gatherings were held throughout The Commonwealth and online as we networked, talked about the VLA, and shared professional knowledge.
