The Reading League Virginia welcomed Carlin Connor, and Beth Williams from Virginia Literacy Partnerships to learn more about accessing Virginia Language and Literacy Screening System (VALLSS) reports and evaluating the data to make impactful instructional decisions. Watch the video here.

The Reading League Virginia welcomed Becky Beegle to share strategies for “Reading Big Words.” This event was designed to help strengthen your understanding of how to teach students to decode multisyllabic words. View the slides here.

August 29, 2023 – August Kickoff Meeting with Jamey Peavler
The Reading League Virginia kicked off the 2023-24 school year with Jamey Peavler, full-time instructor in the Reading Science Graduate program at Mount St. Joseph’s University, National LETRS Trainer, and textbook reviewer for post-secondary programs for the National Council for Teacher Quality. Participants learned how to plan for student success by building a scientifically based ELA block. Jamey’s session explored questions such as Which skills should I target? What should the reading block look like? and How can I ensure that students are getting the instruction they need? Watch the recording here. View the slides here.
